The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is sundered. 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
