In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
