The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
