The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
