The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
