And a sign for them is the dead earth; We gave it life and We produced from it grain, so they eat from it. 33 We have laid out gardens of dates and grapes upon it, and made springs of water flow, 34 that they might eat of its fruits and their hands' labour. What, will they not be thankful? 35 Holy is He who created all things in pairs; of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and other things which they do not know. 36 Of the signs for them is how We separated the day from the night and thus they remained in darkness; 37 And the sun runneth to its appointed term: that is the disposition of the Mighty, the Knowing. 38 And the moon, We have determined it in phases till it returns like an old palmbranch. 39 The sun cannot overtake the moon, nor can the night outpace the day: each floats in [its own] orbit. 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride. 42 We could have drowned them if We pleased, and none would have answered their cry for help, nor would they have been saved, 43 Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time. 44 And when it is said unto them: fear that which is before you and that which is behind you, that haply ye may find mercy, they withdraw. 45 And whenever a sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord, they always turn away from it! 46 And when it is said to them: 'Spend of that which Allah has given you' the unbelievers say to the believers: 'Are we to feed those whom Allah can feed if He chooses? Surely, you are only in clear error' 47 And they say: "When will this promise come to pass, if what you say is true?" 48 They must be waiting for but one single blast, which will overtake them while they are still disputing. 49 Then they will not be able to make a will or return to their families. 50
