Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and arranged cushions 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
