Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
