The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
