The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said, “My Lord! Help me as they deny me.” 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead plants. So away with the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, disobedient to His Messengers, etc.). 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
