He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
