The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
