AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 There are great Signs in this for those endowed with intelligence. 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 And the people of Aykah were also wrong-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
