۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
