Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
