He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
