And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
