(Muhammad), have you ever seen the one who has turned away (from guidance), 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he [claim to] have knowledge of something that is beyond the reach of human perception, so that he can see [it clearly]? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 And with Abraham who kept his word: 37 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; 38 And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- 39 He will certainly see the result of his labor 40 Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense. 41 And that to your Lord is the finality 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 and that it is He alone who deals death and grants life; 44 And that He createth the pair, the male and the female. 45 from a discharged living germ 46 That the second creation is incumbent on Him; 47 And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; 48 and that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius, 49 that it was He that destroyed ancient Aad 50 and Thamud tribes, 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, 53 Then covered them with that which covered them. 54 Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. 55 This is a warning just like those of former times. 56 The Approaching Day has approached. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 Wasting your time in vanities? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
