The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
