▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 3 of 3
۞ NAY, I call to witness the coming-down in parts [of this Qur'an] 75 - which is indeed a great oath if only you knew it - 76 it is surely a noble Koran 77 in a well-guarded preserved Book, 78 which none but the pure [of heart] can touch: 79 (This Quran) is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe. 80 Is it this Statement that ye scorn, 81 Do you make its denial your means of livelihood? 82 Why, but when the soul leaps to the throat of the dying 83 the while you are [helplessly] looking on 84 We are closer to him than you, but you cannot see. 85 Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.) 86 do you not bring back his soul, if you speak truly? 87 And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah, 88 then for him there shall be comfort and plenty and a Garden of Bliss; 89 And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand, 90 Then: peace unto thee, for thou art of those on the right hand. 91 And if he be of the beliers, the erring, 92 a welcome of burning despair [awaits him in the life to come,] 93 and the heat of a blazing fire! 94 This is the absolute Truth and certainty. 95 Therefor (O Muhammad) praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 96
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
