He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Almighty God's Truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
