The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
