The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
