The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man consider of what he was created. 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 which comes out of the loins and ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 surely it is a decisive word; 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
