Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
