The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
