The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
