(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
