The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
