The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
