We have created the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
