Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down, and which We have ordained; and therein We have sent down revelations manifest, that haply ye may be admonished. 1 AS FOR the adulteress and the adulterer flog each of them with a hundred stripes, and let not compassion with them keep you from [carrying out] this law of God, if you [truly] believe in God and the Last Day; and let a group of the believers witness their chastisement. 2 The fornicator shall marry none but a fornicatress or an idolatress; and the fornicatress none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; that is forbidden to the believers. 3 And those who accuse honourable women but bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and never (afterward) accept their testimony - They indeed are evil-doers - 4 except that of those who afterwards repent and reform themselves; God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and do not have witnesses except their own statements – for such the testimony is that he bear the testimony four times by the name of Allah that he is truthful. 6 And the fifth (testimony) (should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allah on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her). 7 The spouse will be acquitted of the punishment if she challenges his testimony by saying four times, "God is my witness that he is a liar". 8 And a fifth (time) that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaketh truth. 9 Were it not for God's grace and His mercy upon you, [you would have come to grief] and God is wise, acceptor of repentance. 10
