The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
