A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 Verily we are undone. 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
