The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 save those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
