The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
