The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
