Children of Israel, remember My blessing wherewith I blessed you, and that I have preferred you above all beings; 47 And fear a Day whereon not in aught shall a soul satisfy for a soul, nor shall intercession be accepted thereof, nor shall compensation be received therefor, nor shall they be succoured. 48 (Children of Israel, recall My favor) of saving you from the Pharaoh's people who afflicted you with the worst kind of cruelty, slaying your sons and sparing your women. Your suffering was indeed a great trial from your Lord. 49 We parted the sea to save you and drowned Pharaoh's people before your very eyes. 50 And recall what time We treated with Musa forty nights, then ye betook the calf after him, and ye were wrong-doers. 51 Then We forgave you after that so perhaps you would be grateful. 52 And [remember the time] when We vouchsafed unto Moses the divine writ - and [thus] a standard by which to discern the true from the false - so that you might be guided aright; 53 And when Moosa said to his people, “O my people! You have wronged yourselves by taking the calf,* therefore turn in repentance to your Creator, therefore kill each other; this is better for you before your Creator”; He therefore accepted your repentance; indeed He only is the Most Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful. (* as your deity for worship) 54 When you argued with Moses, saying that you were not going to believe him unless you could see God with your own eyes, the swift wind struck you and you could do nothing but watch. 55 Then We raised you up after your death: Ye had the chance to be grateful. 56 And We made the clouds to give shade over you and We sent to you manna and quails: Eat of the good things that We have given you; and they did not do Us any harm, but they made their own souls suffer the loss. 57 And when We said: Go into this township and eat freely of that which is therein, and enter the gate prostrate, and say: "Repentance." We will forgive you your sins and will increase (reward) for the right-doers. 58 Then the evildoers substituted a saying other than that which had been said to them; so We sent down upon the evildoers wrath out of heaven for their ungodliness. 59
