[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 Tomorrow they will come to know, who is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Indeed We sent upon them a single Scream – thereupon they became like the barrier builder’s residual dry trampled hay. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they obstinately disputed the warning. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 One early morning Our torment brought upon them utter destruction. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
