Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
