He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
