Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
