۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
