The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
