He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
