Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said, “Do you see these (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
