The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 purify your garments; 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
