Nay, by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
