Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
