The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
